Passive Free Phase Remediation Equipment
Passive skimming equipment accumulates free product over time, they do not pump product to the surface. They use floating intake filters that allows only free liquid phase product to enter or absorbent material in cage bailers. The product is removed after the skimmers are brought up to the surface. The goal satisfied by skimming systems is the collection of free product with little or no recovery of water. They also feature low cost and simple operation and maintenance.
Geotech offers two basic forms of passive skimmers:
- Filter canisters and buoys – Filters are constructed of a oleophilic/hydrophobic material which allows only free liquid phase product to enter. The liquid hydrocarbons trickle through the filter and then flow into the bottom of the canister where the product is stored for later removal. Two mesh sizes for hydrocarbon viscosities 50 to 400 SSU.
- Absorbent bailers – Simple skimming devices which are suspended in the well across the surface of the free product layer. Attached material absorbs product from the water surface and is removed and disposed of at the surface.
Geotech Passive Recovery Canister (PRC)![]()
The Geotech PRC (Product Recovery Canister) is a passive skimmer with a floating intake that separates and recovers light hydrocarbons from ground water. The Geotech PRC collects floating product down to a sheen then is emptied through a discharge valve at the bottom of the canister after being raised to the surface. |
Geotech GeoSorb Sock
The GeoSorb is designed to recover free phase hydrocarbons from 2" or 4" (5cm or 10cm) and larger wells. The GeoSorb System consists of a stainless steel screened cage assembly and a product selective absorbent. The system is lowered down the well where it passively absorbs free product. |
